How do I format a cell in excel 2003 sop when the number 2 is
entered, it shows it as 0002?

One way is to use:
Format Cells Number Custom
and to put
0000
as the "Type".

Cell format question? (example 0002)
 

Format... Cells... Number Tab...

Select Custom from category.

Enter 0000 in the Type: blank.

Once you have done this once, it will be menu selection under they type
entry box.
