Currency converstion problem

I have recently loaded in Office 2003 which includes Excel 2003. Prior to
this I had Works Spreadsheet installed. All my accounts files which were
saved as Works Spreadsheets when opened up in Excel have Dollars in any
numerical columns when they were originally saved with UK Pounds in
I have changed the language properties for Office 2003 from U.S to U.K. and
have checked the regional settings on the computer and they are for the U.K.
I noticed that I lost the dollar sign on the excel toolbar and any new sums
can be done in Pounds, but despite restarts and trying other files from old
discs, all my old spreadsheet files open with Dollars on them.
Without having to go through about 10 years of accounts and change every sum
by hand has anyone got any ideas what I could try.
I hope you can help as I am trying to do a VAT return by next week!! Help!!
Thank you

I'm assuming this is a cell formatting issue, and it is just a case of
reinstating the £ symbol instead of $?

In which case all you would need to do is select the cells you need to
change and press Ctrl+1 then select the £ Symbol under Currency.

Hi Montrose

Thank you for your quick reply.

I am able to change all the cells as you mentioned. Unforunately I have got
over 800 full pages to format and then double check with original hard
copies!! I wondered if there might be any other clever way to acheive the
same result so that they open up without the Dollar?

I am not sure why they would automatically convert to this if the 'language'
settings have been already changed to U.K?

Any other thoughts?

Cheers
