Use Data / AutoFilter... and filter your date column based on two conditions:

Greater than or equal to.. First Date

And

Less than or equal to.... Second Date

Thank you very much but is there a way so that the auto filter can
filter using a cell value rather than having to write it in?

No. You would need to use a macro, like

Sub Example()

Range("C6:F1000").AutoFilter Field:=2, Criteria1:="=" & Range("D2").Value, Operator:=xlAnd, _
Criteria2:="<=" & Range("D3").Value

End Sub

D2 and D3 held the values on which you wanted to autofilter column D (the second column of the
range)

Hi thanks for that its ok but reverses the last date so when i try to
choose the outer boundry as 01/12/2006 it uses 12/01/2006 and also it
hides the chosen values where i need it to show the chosen dates and
hide the rest
