how to set up a built in header footer in excel
 

In excel there we have custome built in header and footer entries in ther
drop down box. How can I set up a new one. For example

a " Company 1 confidential, current date page 1 entry.

You cannot add to the built-ins but you can add a custom footer/header.

Open a new workbook. Customize as you wish.
Note: you can set all sheet footers at the same time by "grouping" the sheets.
Right-click on a sheet tab and "select all sheets". Set up a footer on the
active sheet and will be done to all. Ungroup when setup is complete.

FileSave As Type: scroll down to Excel Template(*.XLT) and select. Name your
workbook "BOOK"(no quotes). Excel will add the .XLT to save as BOOK.XLT.

Store this workbook in the XLSTART folder usually located at........

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

This will be the default workbook for FileNew or the Toolbar button FileNew

Do not use FileNew...Blank Workbook or you will get the Excel default workbook.

Existing workbooks are not affected by these settings.

You can also open a new workbook and delete all but one sheet. Customize as
you wish then save this as SHEET.XLT in XLSTART folder also. It now becomes
the default InsertSheet.

Thank you. I'll give it a shoot. Incedentially how did the custom one get
there in the first place. Was it during setup of MS Office excel?

A new default Excel workbook will have no "Custom" headers or footers.

If you have a custom header or footer, you must already be using a Template and
not the default workbook.

They will have a list of "built-in" headers and footers.

Are you sure you have not gotten the two option boxes mixed up?

Do you click on the drop-down arrow of the dialog box "header:" or "footer:" or
on the "Custom Header" or "Custom Footer"?

Gord,

I is appearing that the Built in Header/Footer in the drop down appears when
you load MS Office. At least that is what the admin is saying. They seem to
think that they needto change the reg edit default company name. SO when the
user opens any new excel file and selects, Viewheader footer. Selects the
drop down arrow(s) for header and footer the choice will appear on all excel
worksheets for all users desk tops.

Does that make sense?
You were right it is not a custom Header footer but a built in Header footer
selection.

Some of the information comes from the installation routine.......

Company name is one of these. Company Name can be changed in Registry

User Name from ToolsOptionsGeneral is added later.

Any workbook open will be referenced.

You were right it is not a custom Header footer but a built in Header footer
selection.
