How do I set up Excel to display time as typed

I want to be able to format excel so that when I type 9.00 in a cell it
displays as 9.00 am. Every time i use time format and type it in it displays
as 12.00 am - why?

Dear Jenny,

Excel can displays as you put in. You can chosse "text" category from
format\cell menu. So it will show as 9.00 as you typed.
But the problem is you will not calculate further. If you want to
calculate (eg. duration), you should use type like 9:00. and for
evening 4 o'clock as 16:00. You can choose time category from
format\cell menu and then you choose 13:00 type in beyond box.

Hoping it's what you want!
