how to reference/copy cell format ???

Given A1 has some value plus formatting (color, bold, etc). How do I
set A2 (for example) to equal to A1, including all of the formatting of
A1? Is this even possible?

Appreciate any help.

how to reference/copy cell format ???

1. select cell A2 and enter:
=A1

2. select cell A1 and pull-down:
Edit Copy

3. select cell A2 and pull-down:
Edit Paste Special and check format

I'm looking for more of an automated way. I'm aware of the paste
special but it won't work for what I'm trying to accomplish.
Appreciate the suggestion.
