Find and Replace

When I try to do a find and replace, I get the following message: "Formula
too long"

This is the formula in the cell. I am replacing $O$ with $X$

='[2005 Budget - Marketing.xls]2005 bgt by season'!$M$14+'[2005 Budget -
Marketing.xls]2005 bgt by season'!$O$14+'[2005 Budget - Marketing.xls]2005

Don't know if this will help but I would take that chunk to a word processor
or text editor, do the find and replace there and then paste back the formula
Also make sure you didn't add a space together with the $X$ in the replace
process

a formula can be 1024 characters, copy the formula that works to a new
workbook
remove the equal sign at the beginning, use

=LEN(A1)

where a1 is the cell where you put the formula, now do the replace there and
see if the len formula will change

A trick that might help is to go to the workbook '2005 budget - marketing.xls'
and temporarily rename the worksheet to something shorter, like "X". Then save
the workbook under a new, shorter name, like 'Y'. Now you should be able to
edit the formula. When you've done that, reverse the worksheet and workbook
name changes.
