Viewing non-printable characters

Hi, I have an excel sheet containing downloaded data from a database. The
database reporting function is not working properly and I thought it may be
because the data contains non printable characters such as spaces or carriage
returns. I know how to view these in MS word but haven't found an equivalent
function in Excel.

I had thought of moving all data to Word to identify these but it doesn't
pick them up. Do you know if Excel has a function that will display these
characters on screen and could you tell me how to use please?

Thanks for your help.
