Can I import data into columns in Excel ?

I'm new at this - and need a little help troubleshooting!

I need to import data from a number of (MS Word) forms into Excel 2003. I
am able to do this but the problem is that the data in each form exceeds the
number of columns available. Is there a way to import the data set into a
column as opposed to a row? If not - any other suggestions?

Thank you in advance,

Tackling the problem from the Excel end, you could try the 2007 beta to
allow more columns, but take note of all the warnings about beta versions.

Looking at it from the Word end, you could use Word (or another editor) to
change the field separator to a record separator.
