Default Force bar chart x-axis labels to two lines?

Is it possible to force the X-axis labels onto two lines, no matter how
wide a bar chart is?

For a client, I'm creating a series of 50 bar charts showing
distribution of prices and margins in certain ranges, so the X-axis
labels are like this: "$1.00-$1.50", "$1.50-$2.00", "$2.00-$2.50" and
so on. On some of the charts, the labels are split onto two lines, on
others, they are not. The client is adamant that all the labels be on
two lines.

So far, the only option I've found is to copy the chart and paste it
into Powerpoint as an enhanced metafile; then ungroup it (twice),
delete the labels and retype them, then regroup the chart elements. Of
course this means a lot more work, which has to be repeated every time
the client changes the charts.

Is there a better way?

[Excel 2002]

Thanks.
