3D column chart, stacked
Hello,
I created a 3D chart of the type 3D Column Chart from the standard tzpe menu. see following pictu 3D: http://www.directupload.net/show/d/567/MyhouTEW.jpg X Achsis: driven kilometre in 10000 blocks Y Achsis: Production month Z Achsis: number I need to show another month in that chart, the repair month. Each colored column should be a stacked column with more colors, so that every color shows a repair month. the chart should look like the following but 3 dimensional: 2D: http://www.directupload.net/show/d/567/d88eP7Cx.jpg That is a stacked column chart with 3 D effect from the standard types. it is not really 3 dimensional, the timeline is missing. I think what I need acctually is a combination of both charts, but I cant find a solution. Maybe it is possible with VBA or excel has another possibility to combine charts. Many thanks for help! regards, Michael |

Forget the 3D chart. Please.
Why not make a clustered-stacked column chart, which is really a stacked column chart with carefully arranged data. Hi Jon,
I have already had a look at your website and I´ve found some useful information like that excel can´t combine that chart types. your website is really good. but normally there should be a possibility to do that with VB. VB could maybe use that Excel functions in another way/sequence or create a charttype out of different chart functions.... Maybe someone knows more... regards, Michael "Jon Peltier" wrote: Forget the 3D chart. Please. Hi Jon,
thanks for your reply, I have already had a look on your website, it´s really good, I have found some useful information. You wrote that Excel cannot combine these two chart types, but shouldn´t there be a possibility to do that with VB? I mean maybe a VB Excel Macro could use the Excel functions in another way/sequence. then you could create an own chart type... I think it should be possible theoretically, but practically I don´t know VB and the functions... regards, Michael "Jon Peltier" wrote: Forget the 3D chart. Please. There's nothing magical about VB (please don't tell my clients!). VB allows
you to automate most (not quite all) of what you can do manually, and it does provide some shortcuts to what you could do tediously by hand. VB does not provide any new built in chart types or other graphical features. The problems with 3D charts include that they are hard to make in such a way as to accurately represent the data; and that most people making charts don't even realize their data is not accurately represented, because they are busy with (blinded by) formatting issues. Excel can't really handle 3 dimensions of data in a Cartesian manner, but most people don't have Cartesian data anyway. Most of their data is only 2D, so the third dimension is misleading in that it gives a false impression of a third spatial dimension. If the data has multiple dimensions, the added dimensions are usually categorical, so laying them out along a third spatial dimension is unnecessary; a clustered or stacked chart provides a suitable representation of the data. You could make a stacked 3D column chart, but you have to make multiple charts (stacked column charts with 3D effects), one for each value of the 3d dimension (so the data must be categorical along this dimension). You have to make most of the front charts transparent or invisible, then you have to align the charts carefully, so the third dimension recedes properly into the page. What VB can do for you is automate this process, track the visible and hidden chart elements, and handle all of the alignment. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Peltier Technical Services Tutorials and Custom Solutions http://PeltierTech.com/ _______ "waeltlmi" wrote in message ...
