Excel should heavily extend the options for black-white charts
Most printers only print in black and white, and therefore chart making in
Excel is very much geared towards making charts in B/W instead of in colors. Therefore, it is problematic that Excel only offers colored charts as defaults, and also that that the options for B/W-charts (line styles, bar filling etc) are much too few in comparison with other software. Hence, I suggest the following: 1) That Excel offers the user two variants of default chart templates: one in color and one in B/W. For the B/W, a set of complementing styles and shapes should be carefully chosen by the Excel team. 2) That the number of styles and variants for making B/W-charts is heavily increased. Now there are only 5 line styles and 4 line weights. The first of these could well be multiplied by four, i.e., offering 20 line styles! ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes.
