Functions of x

A couple of questions about charting:

1)
Is it possible to chart functions of x in Excel directly so I won't
have to define every value of x that is to be plotted? For instance, is
there any way to plot the parabola made by the function x^2 ?

2)
Can one plot asymptotes?
