Numbers instead of symbols on scatter chart
I know I can elect not to display the symbol, and elect to show the series
name, and so could change the series name to a number, but this is impractical. Is there any way of using numbers instead of symbols on a scatter chart. Then, the legend would still show the series name, but instead of both the chart and the legend showing a symbol, they would show the series number. |
the simplest way is to make a text box with no fill and no line with the
number you want in it. copy the text box, not the number in it goto the chart ans select the series and paste. The number will replace the symbol. Unfortuanately I have yet to figure out haow to make the legend have a big enough picture of the number to make it readable wihout pasting the text box over the symbol in the legend. I've used datalabels to display a character rather than a data marker.
There are a couple of third party Excel utilities which you can use, both of which are free and easy to use: Rob Bovey's Chart Labeler, http://appspro.com John Walkenbach's Chart Tools, http://j-walk.com Apply the characters from an extra worksheet range, and use the 'Center' alignment of the labels. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Peltier Technical Services Tutorials and Custom Solutions http://PeltierTech.com/ _______ Bill Sturdevant wrote: I know I can elect not to display the symbol, and elect to show the series name, and so could change the series name to a number, but this is impractical.
