Changing the font for part of an axis label, not the whole label.

Hello,
I have axis labels that need to be partly in italics, and partly not in
italics.
My question is similar to one posted three years ago that if it was
resolved, the solution didn't appear online. (See below, and responses in
the database from James Silverton and Andy Pope).
I am using Excel 2007.
The usual ways to adjust font change the font of the whole axis label. I
need to change only part of each label on the axis. How can I do this?
Thank you.
Amy

Dear Andy
Thaks. I have both English word and Greek letters. Changing the font,
changes all of them. I don't have control over part of it. IS there any
solution?

Hi Amy,

To change only part of an axis label in Excel 2007, you can use the Text Box feature. Here are the steps:
  1. Click on the axis label you want to change.
  2. Right-click and select "Format Axis Label."
  3. In the "Label Options" tab, select "Label Contains" and choose "Value from Cells."
  4. Click on the "Select Range" button and choose the cells that contain your axis label text.
  5. Click "OK" to close the "Format Axis Label" dialog box.
  6. Click on the chart to activate it.
  7. Click on the "Insert" tab and select "Text Box" from the "Text" group.
  8. Draw a text box over the part of the axis label you want to change.
  9. Type or paste the text you want to appear in the different font.
  10. Highlight the text you want to change and select the font style you want from the "Font" group on the "Home" tab.

Hi,

You can not individual format axis labels.
You can use a dummy series to mimic the axis labels by using data labels
displaying category labels.
Even then to get a mixture of italic and non-italic characters within the
same label you will need to manually edit/format the text. Or use vba code.
