Why is the chart data wrong when I hover over it in Excel 2007?
In Excel 2007, the line and scatter charts do not display the correct x,y
values when the cursor is hovered over a data point. Excel 2003 displayed the correct x,y values. Is there a way to correct this problem in the 2007 version? |
Answer: Why is the chart data wrong when I hover over it in Excel 2007?
Yes, there is a way to correct this problem in Excel 2007. This issue is caused by a feature called "Data Labels" that is turned on by default in Excel 2007. When you hover over a data point, Excel 2007 displays the data label instead of the actual x,y values.
To fix this issue, you can turn off the Data Labels feature by following these steps:
Once you have turned off the Data Labels feature, Excel 2007 will display the correct x,y values when you hover over a data point in a line or scatter chart. |

I have SP2 installed and am seeing the same problem. It happens when I set
the Min and Max axis scaling. I have a file that demonstrates the problem, if someone would like to take a look. Anyone have more on this? I have run into same problem. Data appears to
work correctly in chart, formulas, trendlines, etc. But when hovering mouse over a data point in chart incorrect info is displayed for some data points. Using Excel 2007 SP2. Thanks. I've been plagued by this issue intermittently since upgrading to Excel 2007. In my case, it's always the x-axis values that get jumbled up.
Believe it or not, the solution that I've found is simply to make sure that underlying data is sorted properly. For me, if the x-axis values (which are almost always dates) are not in order, the "Point" value in the data labels shown on hover are incorrect. Quote:
