The characters in a legend entry or in an axis tick label cannot be formatted
individually, though they can in an axis or chart title, a text box, or a data label.

The only workaround i know of is to type your wanted label into a text box
format it as wanted, put a white or other appropriate color and move the box
over the lable for the data.
