How can I shade one half of a graph?

I have created a timeline graph. However, the graph is getting wide. I want
to hide some dates but to let others know there are months not on the graph I
would like to shade a portion of the graph. Is there a better way to shade a
portion of a graph/chart without using a text box shaded?

Hi,

What is the purpose of shading a portion of the chart? You may be hiding
data from view but the chart is just a wide? Are you trying to cover up the
data on the left but still leave the chart?
