How can you adjust value text box in charts?

I'm having this problem that when I develop a pie chart with values then
decide to resize the chart the formatting of the value changes due to the
text box around the value is fixed. For example if a piece of a pie chart
was 44%, when I resize the chart to the size I require sometimes the % sign
falls below the 44 and not beside it. This is not good quality when the
charts are for publications. Alternatively, I could develop separate text
boxes for each piece of pie but that is somewhat combersome. Does anyone have
a solution?

Hi Graeme,

Have you added these values as Data Labels? I have tried in both xl2002 and
xl2007 and cannot replicate the problem using data labels.

Also What version of xl are you using?

Just another thought Graeme. If you are using data labels, after resizing,
select the data labels (just clicking on one of them should do it) and hit
the delete key and then re-insert them and see what happens.

OssieMac,

I deletied data label values and re-entered them however that didn't work.
Currently running Windows XP and Excel 2003.

Hi again Graeme,

Can you post a copy of the table of data and I'll try to replicate the pie
chart and have a play with it?. I assume that you are trying to make the
chart smaller; is that correct?

Hi OssieMac,

The data for one one the pie charts is pretty simple (as below). The
problem occures when I develop a pie chart then shrink it down quite small.
The report that we produce has numerous pie charts on a A4 sheet, so when
they are shrunk down the % sign falls below the value section. Excel doesn't
appear to allow manual changes to the value frame size i.e. stretching the
frame across to allow the % sign to move back into its correct position.

I could reduce the font size however it them become difficult to read when
printed.

Are you aware of any Excel add ins that improve the quality of charts?

thanks
Graeme
