dates on scatter chart axis

In setting the scale (Minimum and Maximum under Axis Options) a scatter data
graph axis, in Excel 2003 you could enter the date (e.g., 1/1/1987) . In
Excel 2007 it appears I can only enter the number (e.g., 31778) which is
quite difficult.

Is there a way in Excel 2007 to enter the date?

No. Jon Peltier has pointed that out as one of a number of retrograde
changes in Excel 2007. As he has pointed out, the easiest option is to use
a worksheet to put the date you require into a cell and allow the sheet to
do the conversion to 31178, so that you can see which number to type (or
copy) into the Axis dialogue.
