chart type automatically goes to Template

I have converted all my excel files to 2007. Now I am updating my charts and
continue to run into problems with the "Template" I will select the Chart
Type as Line but it goes to Template wihout my choosing. Then when I try to
modify the x-axis (date in this case) it does not go to what I set it, it
sets itself. Any ideas beside redoing the charts altogether?

thanks

Please list the steps in order so we can duplicate your problem, for example

What chart type do you have before you start changing it? What version of
Excel are you converting the charts from? If the charts were ok in the
earlier version what is making it necessary to change them? Were they Line
charts in the earlier version but converted to pie charts when you imported
them?

1. Select the chart (or are you selecting a series on a chart?)
2. Choose Insert and click the quick launch button in the Chart group (or
are you doing it some other way?)
3. Click the Line category on the left side of the Change Chart Type
dialog box (is this where you are?) and choose one of the Line charts on the
right (which line chart on the right?)
4. Click OK. Now the chart type is Template or what? And what style chart
do you get when you click OK?
Is your file in Compatibility Mode or not?
