Excel 2007 horizontal error bars

I am having trouble creating horizontal error bars in Excel 2007 - there
appears to be no option concerning them. It may be because I am using Excel
2003 compatibility mode - to allow exchange of workbooks with my co-workers.

If it's a Line Chart type you are using, try changing to a XY (Scatter)
Chart type instead.

What do you mean by "no option concerning them"? Is it that you couldn't
create them, or that you can't now format them?

Excel 2007 horizontal error bars

ISTR having problems finding the X error bar interface in 2007. Now of
course it seems obvious where it is, but when I first was hunting for it,
this whole discoverability thing was a myth.

When you add error bars from the control on the ribbon, the chart adds both
X and Y error bars, if it's an XY chart. Sometimes the X error bar values
are too small, and you don't see them or can't select them. But you can get
to them from the chart element selector dropdown thingie (forget what it's
called, and 2007 is only on my backup laptop downstairs). I also think you
can get to the X error bars from the Y error bar dialog, or maybe they're
tabs on the same dialog.

This is another way in which they've completely hobbled the charting user
interface. I'm in the process of designing an alternate Excel 2007 (and
might as well do 2003) charting interface, with my own usable dialogs. Maybe
it will be ready after a few weeks of nighttime hacking.
