Powerpoint
in a powerpoint presentation when i click on chart from the menu is that an
excel chart or do have to go to object new then click excel chart |

That is an MS Graph chart, which is "like" an Excel chart, but not as good. If you have data in Excel, it's easier to make the chart in Excel, then use some variation of Copy (in Excel) and Paste (in PowerPoint).
