excel goes insanely slow

HI,

Im making graphs in 2007, They are called tensile curves and have about 1500
points each. I have 9 curves on one graph. Basically, excel crashes, if i
go to change anything (axes scale, line weight, colour, etc) excel goes
slower then any program ive ever run, stops responding and eventually (2-10
minutes later) lets me click something.

Im running a core 2 duo with ample ram, disk space and operating on xp pro
so im doubting its a hardware or OS problem

any ideas on what is wrong and/or how to fix it?

Thanks,
Tom

An interesting problem. Would you like to send me ( remove TRUENORTH.) the
file so I can experiment? I will respect the confidentiality of the data but
you could add some gremlin constant to the y-values!

Microsoft has released a hotfix that helps with Excel 2007 charts that have
"a lot" of points and non-default axis settings. In very limited testing I
have found that it seems to reduce crashes, and somewhat speeds up Excel's
processing, when working with such charts. A colleague has told me that with
the hotfix Excel 2007 is 5 to 10 times faster than without, although it's
still many times slower than Excel 2003.

I am not endorsing the hotfix (installer beware), and Microsoft warns that
it has not been as fully tested as a service pack, but you can find a
description of it at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938538, and you can
follow the link to MS customer support to have a link to the hotfix emailed
to you. They will not charge you for the hotfix, but you still must go
through Customer Service to access it.
