how to change axis labels to text?

Please help!! i am making scatter plot charts with element names (e.g. SiO2)
along the x-axis but the programme has put all the x-axis labels as a series
of numbers (1, 2...etc.)

Hi,

XY scatter chart will only display numbers on the axes.
A line chart will display categories on the X Axis.

If you are using a Line chart use the Source Data dialog to specify the
range containing category labels. Right click chart and pick Source data
from context menu.

See here for more detail on the differences between Line and xy-scatter
charts.
