Undelete Legend Items

I deleted several legend entries, but now I would like to bring them back.
How is this accomplished?

Here is the purpose for deleting them in the first place. Maybe you can
help me with an alternative. I have a list of numbers that I am graphing. I
insert a trendline to get a smoother line. I also insert a single point to
show the point of interest. I format the original line to not show (set Line
and Marker to none). I then delete the legend entries for the trendline and
orignal data set. This way the legend is not cluttered. I wanted to tweak
it a little but I can't access the orignal data curve, as it is not showing
in either the graph or the legend.

Answer: Undelete Legend Items

To undelete legend items in Microsoft Excel, you can follow these steps:
  1. Right-click on the chart and select "Select Data" from the drop-down menu.
  2. In the "Select Data Source" dialog box, click on the "Hidden and Empty Cells" button at the bottom left corner.
  3. In the "Hidden and Empty Cell Settings" dialog box, select "Show data in hidden rows and columns" and click OK.
  4. Now, you should be able to see the deleted legend items in the chart. Simply click on the checkbox next to the legend item to bring it back.

As for an alternative to deleting legend entries, you can try renaming them to something more descriptive. For example, instead of
Code:

"Series 1"
and
Code:

"Trendline 1"
, you can rename them to "Original Data" and "Trendline". This way, the legend will still be informative without cluttering the chart. To rename a legend entry, simply double-click on the legend item and type in the new name.

You can't get back individual deleted legend entries. However, if you delete
and reinstate the legend, it will return with all legend entries. You can
then delete a new subset of entries.

That's much better than starting a new chart, thank you.
