I had three surface(contour) plots on which I was using a custom colour
scheme (various greys). In order to make sure that all three had exactly the
same colour scheme, I created a blank spreadsheet and copied and pasted each
graph onto the page. When I did, the colour scheme changed! It was
different every time I pasted the graph. It looks like the fill colour
scheme was put back to automatic when I pasted. The program also chose a
different design colour scheme for each chart. I don't think this should be
happening!

The color scheme (i.e., "palette") of the new workbook needs to be matched
to that of the workbook containing the charts. With the new workbook active,
go to Tools menu Options Color. In the Copy Colors From dropdown at the
bottom, select the open workbook with the color palette you want.

As you've noticed, the color system in 2007 is way different than anything
that came before. I would have expected a chart copied within the same
workbook to retain its formatting, but I would also not be surprised if it
didn't. I'll look into this and file a bug if I replicate your observed
behavior.

Colour scheme changes when copying

Hi, Jon,

This is what I met in my project. When I copied a 3D-surface chart with the
custome color scheme and pasted it in the same worksheet, colors of all
regions changed to the same as the first one. But when I opend the clipboard
in Excel 2007 before pasting , all colors keep restaning.
