Answer: Adjust X Axis Scale to Months/Days or Hours?

Hi there! I'd be happy to help you adjust the X-axis scale to display months/days or hours in your Excel graph.

To display the X-axis in months/days or hours, you will need to format the axis as a date or time axis. Here are the steps to do so:
  1. Select the chart you want to modify.
  2. Right-click on the X-axis and select "Format Axis" from the drop-down menu.
  3. In the Format Axis pane that appears on the right-hand side of the screen, select the "Axis Options" tab.
  4. Under "Axis Type," select "Date axis" or "Time axis," depending on your data.
  5. If you selected "Date axis," you can choose the date format you want to use by selecting "Date" under "Number."
  6. If you selected "Time axis," you can choose the time format you want to use by selecting "Time" under "Number."
  7. Click "Close" to apply the changes.

Once you have formatted the X-axis as a date or time axis, you should be able to adjust the scale to display months/days or hours. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click on the X-axis and select "Format Axis" from the drop-down menu.
  2. In the Format Axis pane, select the "Axis Options" tab.
  3. Under "Units," select "Days," "Months," or "Hours," depending on your data.
  4. Adjust the "Major unit" and "Minor unit" values to control the spacing of the axis labels.
  5. Click "Close" to apply the changes.

That's it! Your X-axis should now be displaying months/days or hours, depending on your formatting choices. Let me know if you have any other questions or if there's anything else I can help you with.

Adjust X Axis Scale to Months/Days or Hours?

Hi,

You need to force the axis to be Time Series.
Right click chart and pick Chart Options. On the Axis tab change the
scale type from Automatic to Time Series.

Cheers Andy- is there any way of going down to hourly level of detail- the
drop downs only seem to go down to daily?

For Hours you would need to use the xy-scatter chart.
Although the scale has Min and Max values you can enter dates and times.
The values will then be converted to serial date values for you.
So for example you could enter this values to get 12 hour intervals
through the days in January. The values in brackets are what the chart
converts them to when you re check the scale values.

Min: 1/1/2007 (39083)
Max: 31/1/2007 (39113)
Major: 12:00 (0.5)
