Vertical lines in a line chart
Hi,
I have a problem with vertical lines in an excel line-chart. I have checked the available information in excel charts, but it does not work (Jons Excel and Charting Pages). I keep getting a sloping line and cannot place it on the month I want. I do not have days on the x-axis but months ranging from Jan. 1999 to June 2003. If I want a line at e.g. June 1999, will that be possible? Up till now I have done it manually. Thanks, Enna |

Hi enna, try an XY Scatter instead of a Line chart.

To elaborate on Henk's post, keep the main chart as a Line chart, but select
the added series, go to the Chart menu and choose Chart Type, and select an XY type, with lines and no markers. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions http://PeltierTech.com _______ "HEK" wrote in message ... Vertical lines in a line chart
Hi
It sort of works. At least I now get a straight line, but it is in the wrong place. It places itself on Jan. 1999 instead of on June 1999. My x-axis is in the following way: Jan. 1999 Feb. March April June July Aug. etc. continues Jan. 2000 Feb. etc. How do I specify that I want it on June? My mind is not very mathematically, so I think that it may be the bullet point: "If the x-values are text categories, enter the 'i' number" in yourAdd a vertical line description, that I don't completely understand. Sorry for bothering you again, but I often have to put these lines in charts. Hi Enna -
What are you using for the X value of the added series? If the first category is January (i=1), June is probably the 6th, so try using 6 (i=6). Move it to one side or the other of the category by using ±0.5 (i.e., 5.5 or 6.5), or fine tune it by making similar adjustments. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions http://PeltierTech.com _______ "Enna" wrote in message ... Hi Jon
Thanks a lot. I have come a long way. I succeeded to put on two vertical lines, so I'll just go on trying. Enna "Jon Peltier" skrev: Hi Enna - What are you using for the X value of the added series?
