Default Excel Columns should be referenced in numbers not letters

this is so that you can do calculations in your head about the number of
columns between two columns.

Tools/Options/General/R1C1 reference style.

If you want it that way, use R1C1 reference style. The majority of users
don't want that as a default.

Have you tried this:

ToolsOptionsGeneral tab
Check: R1C1 reference style
Click the [OK] button

Does that help?
