Default Dragging the mouse cursor to select multiple cells

When click the left mouse button and I drag my mouse cursor over multple
cells to select them, there is no color or shading to show the cells that are
being selected. The cells being selected are just white, the same color as
non-selected cells. It's basically a transparent selection. Why is this
happening and how can I fix it? It's very annoying.
