Default Background Saving

Is there any way to specify that Excel 2000 save a background or temporary
file while you use a workbook so that if Excel closes abnormally, you can
access what wasn't saved? Thanks!

xl2k and below came with an autosave addin. Tools|Addins (and install it).

Depending on your installation, you may need the distribution CD.

This autosave addin actually saves your file every x minutes (user selectable).

But...

Jan Karel Pieterse wrote an addin (works in any version) called AutoSafe (note
spelling).

It doesn't overwrite the existing workbook when it saves. It saves to a user
selectable folder. And when it's done, it either deletes these backups (or puts
them in the recycle bin). And the user can always restore the backups from the
recycle bin.

(look for AutoSafe.zip, not autosafeVBE.zip, for your purposes.)

Thank you! I really didn't think there was a way to do this, but I thought
I'd ask. The newsgroups always come through for me!
