Default Displaying trendlines in legend (or not)

I have a scatter chart with sparce data. So to make the lines more
clear, I have added trend lines. I did this a few weeks ago and I got
the whole thing formatted the way I want. Now I have added a new data
series to the chart and when I tried to add a trendline it shows up in
the legend. But the data series is already there! So now I have four
data series with lines in the legend, along with the new data series as
well as the trendline separately.

I thought I might be able to fix this in the "Format data series"
dialog box, but when the trendline is in place, I can't select this
popup menu.

What am I doing wrong that I can't get the legend to display just the
data series and not the trendline?

Thumbs up Answer: Displaying trendlines in legend (or not)

It sounds like you want to remove the trendline from the legend in your scatter chart. Here's how you can do it:
  1. Click on the chart to select it.
  2. Click on the "Chart Elements" button (the plus sign icon) that appears next to the chart.
  3. Uncheck the box next to "Trendline" in the "Chart Elements" menu. This will remove the trendline from the legend.
  4. If you want to keep the trendline on the chart but just remove it from the legend, you can right-click on the trendline and select "Format Trendline" from the context menu.
  5. In the "Format Trendline" dialog box, go to the "Options" tab.
  6. Under "Trendline Name", uncheck the box next to "Display Equation on chart" and "Display R-squared value on chart". This will remove the trendline name and equation from the chart, but keep the trendline itself.
  7. Click "Close" to apply the changes.

That should remove the trendline from the legend and keep it on the chart without any extra clutter. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Go to the legend itself and select the legend that you want to go away.
Right click and (I believe) you have the option to hide it. The trendline
will still be plotted, but it won't show in the legend.

Please do not multipost - it wastes people's time.
Most of us read all the Excel newsgroups.

I had already tried that ane it did not work. When I remove the item
from the legend, it is removed from the graph. Opps, I read Bernards
reply in the other group he explains that I have to select both the
line and the text in the legend and that did the trick!

Thanks!
