Default Pivot Chart Legend editing?

How can I edit the legend in a Pivot Chart in Excel 2007? Or, if thats not
possible, can I edit the data titles in the values field?

Ex: the field is titled Amount Awarded. In the Pivot Field List-Values it is
"Sum of" or "Count of Amount Awarded". How can I edit out "Sum of" or "Count
of" so it doesn't appear in the chart?

Thumbs up Answer: Pivot Chart Legend editing?

Yes, you can edit the legend in a Pivot Chart in Excel 2007. Here are the steps to do so:
  1. Click on the Pivot Chart to select it.
  2. Click on the "Design" tab in the Ribbon.
  3. Click on the "Select Data" button in the "Data" group.
  4. In the "Select Data Source" dialog box, click on the "Legend Entries (Series)" section.
  5. Click on the legend entry you want to edit, and then click on the "Edit" button.
  6. In the "Edit Series" dialog box, you can change the name of the legend entry to whatever you want.
  7. Click "OK" to close the "Edit Series" dialog box.
  8. Click "OK" to close the "Select Data Source" dialog box.

If you want to edit the data titles in the values field, you can do so by following these steps:
  6. In the "Edit Series" dialog box, click on the "Values" field.
  7. Change the name of the field to whatever you want.
  8. Click "OK" to close the "Edit Series" dialog box.
  9. Click "OK" to close the "Select Data Source" dialog box.

That's it! Your Pivot Chart legend and data titles should now be edited to your liking.

On your pivot table, edit the data field heading, and change the name. Since
"Amount Awarded" is already reserved as the name of the data, you'll have to
cheat and make the name something like "Amount Awarded " (note the extra
space).

Hi there,

I am quite new to the Pivot world and am looking for exactly this, i.e. to change the legend name in the Pivot chart.

However, when following the advice here it only works as long as I have keep the selected fields the same. In other words, once I deselect a field and then select it again it the legend name again appears as "Sum of..."

Am I missing something?

Thanks!
