Default drop down boxes on left hand side of workbook

I have worked with workbooks before that have drop down boxes on the left
hand side that pull up extra rows when open and hide these rows when closed.
The drop down boxes are to the left of the row numbers and are in a grayed
out area. I am trying to create this gray area with drop down boxes. Any
idea how?

It could be the subtotal function that's found on the DATA menu, if I'm
interpreting you question correctly.

No, Sorry I was very unclear when asking this question. I actually found
what I was looking for and all I needed to do is highlight rows then group.
This produces the gray area on the left that I was talking about and has a
drop down box for those rows. Thanks for the response anyway.
