Default Excel 2003; spreadsheet with filtering; deleting rows

Have a spreadsheet with 10k rows; filtering is on to identify duplicates; if
then stmt to id the duplicates; when I hilite to delete the selected rows
(roughly 3K at a time); it takes 4x as long as when we performed in a Excel
2002 on a Windows 2000 o/s.... Thoughts on the problem? OS is upgraded to a
WinXP pro latest sp
