Default error checking reports a value in the formula is of the wrong dat.

A1=($280,000)
B1=(=A1*0.05/12)
C1=($2000)
D1=(=A1+B1-C1)

Hi
have you entered the dollar sign manually or is this a format. If
entered manually try to remove the $ sign and try again (use 'Format -
cells' to add this sign as format)

Perhaps 280,000 0r 2000 are Text and not numerics.

Quick check.......

In A2 enter =ISNUMBER(A1) will return TRUE or FALSE

Same for C1

If FALSE, copy an empty cell formatted to General and select your numbers then
Paste SpecialAdd)KEsc.
