Default Excel 97 error opening specific file

I've got an XLS file that generates this error when opening with Excel 97:

[The instruction at "0x3009749f" referenced memory at "0x00000002". The
memory could not be "read".]

This happens on any PC running Excel 97 when trying to open this document.
But the document opens just fine from a PC running Office 2003.

I also tried opening the document from a PC with Office 2003 and the saving
the document in Excel 97 format, but that did nothing and the same error
results.

Any ideas on what the problem could be and how to fix it (other than the
obvious upgrading everyone to Office 2003)?

Thanks!
