Try the following Any workbook, template (template: A workbook that you create and use as the basis for other similar workbooks. You can create templates for workbooks and worksheets. The default template for workbooks is called Book.xlt. The default template for worksheets is called Sheet.xlt.), or workspace file (workspace file: A file that saves display information about open workbooks, so that you can later resume work with the same window sizes, print areas, screen magnification, and display settings. A workspace file doesn't contain the workbooks themselves.) you place in the XLStart folder is automatically opened when you start Excel. This XLStart folder was created when you installed Excel, and is located in one of the following places: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel courtesy of http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...993911033.aspx edvwvw -- Message posted via OfficeKB.com http://www.officekb.com/Uwe/Forums.a...excel/200804/1 |

Just to add to edvwvw's reply...
You can create a template workbook named book.xlt and store it in your XLStart folder. Excel will use that for new workbooks when you start excel and when you click on the New Icon on the Standard toolbar (xl2003 or lower). If you're using xl2007, you can add that New icon to the QAT so that you can use that template file. skillmaster wrote: i am trying to get a template i have created to be the default document every time excel is opened. how is it done! -- Dave Peterson |

To add to Dave's reply......stacking up here<g
Don't use the FileNew...Blank Workbook or you will get the Excel default workbook. Use FileNew or CTRL + n or New File Icon as Dave suggests.
